27.09.2026 A police K-9 was shot and killed on Thursday, September 24, during his last shift before retirement while trying to arrest a murder suspect, according to authorities and reports.
Kylo was injured in the barrage of bullets on his last scheduled shift before retirement.
A police procession carried Kylo’s body from the vet to the Oregon Humane’s Animal Crimes Forensic Center.

“K9 Kylo was a true protector of the peace. We ask our community to keep the officers and professional staff of the Portland Police Bureau in your thoughts as they honor K9 Kylo’s legacy and sacrifice,” the department wrote in a statement.

The adorable K-9 who worked for the bureau for six years was rushed to a veterinary medical center, where he tragically died.
Kylo, a police dog for the Portland Police Bureau, was killed on Thursday when gunfire broke out as cops and the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force tried to cuff a suspect near the Chestnut Tree Inn in Portland.
A manhunt was launched for the alleged killer after cops stumbled upon a dead body in a home earlier in the day, according to the Gresham Police Department.
The suspect was running from authorities when the “officer-involved shooting” unfolded. He was hit with gunfire and, despite life-saving efforts, died at the scene.
Kylo is the second police dog to die in the area this week, following a Gresham Police Department K-9, Leni, who died unexpectedly on Monday.

Two Portland officers and two people from “other agencies” were involved in the shooting and are now on paid leave, Fox8live reported.
