12.06.2026 Looking back at Arik’s miserable fate the first question which comes to mind is:
why in Sofia, capital city of Bulgaria, the animal welfare laws are not enforced?
How come that it was possible to maintain a dog in the garden in a capital of Bulgaria for a decade without vaccination? Zlatimira Ninova Colova (Цолова), who inherited the property of her aunt Galina M., never took the so called “family dog” to a vet to vaccinate against rabies, while the Bulgarian sanitary law foresees the fine of €500 for the failure. And in Colova (Цолова) situation the failure is chronic, mounting to sabotaging the essential sanitary law.

In Bulgaria rabies vaccination is legally mandatory for all dogs; puppies must receive their first shot between 12 and 16 weeks of age, followed by mandatory annual revaccination. How come that the authorities were tolerating the situation which is deemed to be dangerous for public health?
Rabies is a highly dangerous viral disease that attacks the central nervous system. Once clinical symptoms appear, it is almost always fatal, making immediate medical intervention critical.
The rabies virus is exceptionally lethal due to several key factors:
Near 100% fatality rate once symptoms manifest, there is no effective cure, and the disease is fatal in nearly hundred percent of cases. The virus travels from the bite site along the nerves to the brain, causing severe, progressive inflammation (encephalitis).
The brain becomes heavily infected, patients typically experience one of two forms:
Furious Rabies (80% of cases): Characterized by hyperactivity, hallucinations, extreme aggression, excessive salivation (foaming at the mouth), and hydrophobia (painful, involuntary spasms of the throat when attempting to swallow liquids or even at the sight of water).
Paralytic Rabies (20% of cases): Characterized by gradual muscle paralysis starting from the site of the bite, eventually leading to coma and respiratory failure.
The rabies is so dangerous because any potential exposure such as a bite, scratch, or lick on broken skin from an contaminated animal can become fatal. Being a deadly viral disease rabies is transmitted primarily through the saliva of infected mammals. Although the contamination almost always occurs via animal bites, the exposure can also happen if infected saliva directly enters broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes (eyes, nose, or mouth).

And nevertheless, taken into consideration the lethal danger of rabies, Colova* (Цолова)* claiming political ambitions, didn’t bother to take Arik to a vet even once during his lifetime. The only visit he paid to the vets happened when he was surrendered to a shelter as a stray animal, and stayed there for sterilization from 31 January to 11 February, 2025.
Free of charge of course!
“…I believe that the main purpose of the European Union besides being a political and economic policy maker should be to serve its citizens. A leader has to create a more caring and just world. The servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible” Colova said, while explaining her desire to serve Europeans as a Memeber of the European Parliament.
Could Colova *(Цолова) explain, how sabotaging the most basic sanitary law for a decade correlates to “more caring, and just world”? Is it “just and caring” to maintain a dog of a late aunt in squalid, anti-sanitary conditions, refusing to take him for yearly vaccination? How this neglect coincides with the slogans, and her political ambitions?
And why Colova (Цолова) was not subjected to a fine for failing vaccinating Arik against rabies even once in a decade? This striking neglect happened in spite of her generous EU clerk salary of net €5K a month. Was it a status of the EU bureaucrat to shield her for the fines? Or was it her link to Volt political party, that placed her above the law?..
There are serious questions to be answered.
* Zlatimira Colova is the female lead candidate (number 2) for a member of the European Parliament on the List of Volt Bulgaria #EPelections19. Volt is the first political movement to adopt a single election programme for all European countries: The Amsterdam Declaration. The movement, which is present in 32 European countries, wants to build a more democratic Europe able to overcome the daunting challenges facing its citizens.
